HHS has the ability to conference with remote sites using our two polycom units. What is Videoconferencing? A fully interactive conference between two or more remote sites where they can both see and hear each other as well as use a computer, a VCR/camcorder and a document camera.
Using our Internet connection, we can send voice and video over IP to remote sites enabling students to have 2-way, live communication with a remote site. So far, we have conferenced with folks at NASA on DESERT-RATS, the Shoebox Glider Challenge, NASA videoconference offerings, MarineWorld in Florida, and other schools.
Would your class like to take a virtual field trip where they can ask questions and have them answered? Would your class like to discuss a problem or challenge with an expert or another class? Would you like to converse with a foreign country? or take a peek into a museum? or into the workings of Congress?

I participated in the NASA videoconference last year and this was my first experience with videoconferencing. This videoconference provided many students the opportunity to gather ideas to create a science fair project. This videoconference turned out to be a success. I recommend teachers to try this because I think the students will love it.
Melia and I are in the works of starting two additional videoconferences with our magnet students. The topics are in architecture and engineering. I will keep everyone posted on further updates.
My students are excited about the videoconference that we have scheduled with NASA (Johnson Space Center). They are looking forward to speaking with the scientists.
